National Award for Rural Business Advisor

Institute of Business Consulting Awards recognise consultants contribution to small business community 2 November 2007 –

Lancashire-based business adviser, Julie Whalley has won the 2007 Award for Sustainability, an annual accolade awarded by the Institute of Business Consulting. The award is one of six categories announced by the Institute to recognise the contribution of business consultants and advisers to small and growing organisations.
Julie was singled out for the award for her work with businesses across a wide variety of sectors in her local rural area.

Her submission focused on the work done for three very different organisations including a farm, a financial advisory practice and a butchery. The case studies demonstrated where Julie was able to provide innovative and sustainable solutions and advice to benefit small and growing rural businesses.

Julie’s award comes as the UK celebrates Small Business Week (29 Oct – 2 Nov) – an annual event highlighting the increasing importance of SMEs to UK growth and competitiveness.

“The Institute of Business Consulting is delighted to recognise best practice, especially when it relates to small business,” says Lynda Purser, Director of the Institute of Business Consulting. “Julie won this year’s award for sustainability by demonstrating the impact of business consultancy on the performance and productivity of growing organisations and, ultimately, the success of the wider economy.”

Julie, who has experience across a range of industry sectors, is delighted to receive the award. “We are constantly encouraging our clients to think about the affect their business has on the environment, supporting renewable energy and recycling projects as well as developing employment, new products and services in the rural areas, so to be recognised for sustainability is very rewarding” she says “Rural businesses play a major part in the North West regions economy, and we hope to be able to continue to play a supporting role in the future”.

The IBC is committed to enhance industry performance by raising the professional standards of those working in a business consulting role.
About the Chartered Management Institute
Representing 73,000 individual managers and 450 corporate members, the Chartered Management Institute is the only chartered professional body dedicated to management and leadership. The Institute supports individual members with practical guidance on the issues that affect managers in their day-to-day working lives and, as the guardians of national standards for management and leadership, it is also in a unique position to work with
employers to identify and develop the necessary management and leadership skills that drive performance in the UK and internationally. Through its research and policy programme, the Institute also analyses and shapes the issues that matter to employers and individuals, using its knowledge in open communications with key policy makers and government departments responsible for skills development. The Chartered Management Institute came into being on 1 April 2002, as a result of the Institute of Management being granted a Royal Charter.
